What are the benefits of Equine Massage?

Experience the Difference: Regular Equine Massage for Peak Performance with Redleif Cryotherapy and Massage.

As a member of the International Association of Animal Massage Therapists, I aim to not only relieve muscle pain but to assist in preventing future injuries to those muscles.

Give your horse the gift of regular massages, scheduled every 4-6 weeks, and witness a transformation in their performance and flexibility. Consistency is key; it allows their body to release tension and embrace relaxation, unlocking their full potential free from pain and discomfort.

The benefits of equine massage unfold gradually, with some seeing immediate improvements while others may take longer to show progress. Patience is crucial as each horse responds uniquely to these sessions, especially those dealing with chronic tension and stiffness affecting posture and overall performance.

Unlike other therapies, massage directly targets muscles, skin, and fascia tissue, enhancing blood circulation and range of motion. While soreness post-treatment is normal due to the realignment of muscles, a day of rest followed by light exercise like a road or trail ride aids in muscle re-education.

For competitive horses, scheduling a massage at least 5 days before an event optimizes their performance, with post-competition treatments aiding in lactic acid removal and providing essential downtime for recovery.

The benefits of massage are:

  • Enhances muscle tone and flexibility

  • Balances the body holistically

  • Reduces joint inflammation and swelling for pain relief

  • Promotes healing through improved nutrient flow and toxin removal

  • Aids muscle relaxation

  • Stimulates circulation and endorphin release

  • Enhances toxin excretion through the skin

  • Maintains the body in better physical condition overall

What is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy is an instant, natural treatment that reduces pain, increases mobility, reduces muscle fatigue, reduces swelling, speeds up recovery, reduces the chance of injury, boosts energy, increases stamina, improves performance, decreases the need or frequency to medicate joints, and improves well-being.It is also non-swabbable.

Combining these two natural therapies we are able to address all the issues on your horse, thereby improving their performance, biomechanics, soundness and most importantly their overall wellbeing.

Cryotherapy is a technique that uses intense, powerful cold for a short period.

It is different from adjuvant techniques like ice and techniques that are destructive of cells like cryosurgery using liquid nitrogen.

CO2 under pressure provides sufficient cold (-78 oC) that is powerful (pressure), painless (dry), for a short period (30 seconds to several minutes).

In horses, these conditions enable thermal shock to be easily obtained.

Thermal shock is the result of local and general reactions in the organism under the effect of the cold.

The effects of thermal shock are anesthetic, analgesic, antalgesic, anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxant, and anti-oedematous.

The benefits of Cryotherapy includes;

  • Instant, natural treatment

  • Reduces pain

  • Increases mobility

  • Reduces muscle fatigue

  • Reduces swelling

  • Speeds up recovery

  • Reduces chance of injury

  • Decreases need or frequency of joint medication

  • Non-swabbable
